All Animals in GTA Vice

This section offers a complete guide to the animal species featured in Grand Theft Auto VI, covering all land animals, birds, and sea creatures that make up the GTA 6 wildlife and ecosystem.

GTA 6 is set in a fictionalized Miami and Southern Florida, known in-game as Vice City and Leonida. A common question is: what animals will be in GTA 6?

Here, we’ll review all confirmed and potential animal species, including those returning from GTA V and RDR2, alongside wildlife native to Florida. Let’s dive in!

Animals in GTA Vice

Southern Florida has a thriving ecosystem that is well known across the world called The Everglades. It is the only kind of its ecosystem, while The Everglades is definitely not as big as it used to be, the ecosystem is still around.

Following the footprint of Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA 6 will certainly feature a varied wildlife with a lot of different animals. Animals in GTA 6 will be part of a living and realistic ecosystem, fighting for their place on the food chain.

A number of animals have already been confirmed for GTA 6, due to them being seen either in the leaked footage from September 2022, or in the first official trailer of the game.

20. Osceola Turkey
21. Horses
22. Chickens
23. Hawks
24. Beaver
25. Reptiles (Florida is a well-known state for its reptiles)
26. Gooses
27. Pelicans

According to the leaks, hunting and fishing will be features in GTA 6, similar to what we saw in RDR2. While many fish from RDR2 are likely to make a comeback, we can also expect new species and other marine life. Florida is known for its excellent fishing opportunities, making it a popular pastime in the state.

Florida faces significant challenges with invasive species that threaten the local ecosystem. It would be interesting to see a mission where players tackle these invasive creatures, perhaps with the help of a quirky Floridian character. It certainly fits the chaotic spirit of GTA!

Hopefully we’ll be able to play around with online map editors to be able to create unique camps and spots at prime locations.

Animals from Previous Games

Rockstar Games is renowned for creating immersive worlds filled with intricate details. In the past, many of their titles featured few, if any, animals. This changed with the release of the first Red Dead Redemption, which introduced a vast array of wildlife—something previously unseen in their games.

While the animal textures were decent, they weren’t exceptionally detailed. Red Dead Redemption faced significant technical challenges, nearly missing its launch on the PlayStation 3. Given these constraints, it’s understandable that Rockstar prioritized other elements over animal detail. Including wildlife was essential for a Western setting, but achieving hyper-realism wasn’t feasible at that time.

Animals from GTA 5

With the release of Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar reintroduced a sprawling countryside for the first time since San Andreas, leading to the inclusion of more wildlife. While the number of animals wasn’t extensive, it added a sense of life to the environment.

In GTA V, animals weren’t a primary focus; they played a minor role, primarily tied to the hunting mechanic that was necessary for 100% completion. The next-gen update, however, brought several new animals and expanded their functions. One notable mission featured Franklin, who tasked players with photographing the state’s wildlife, rewarding them with the Kraken Submersible.

Players could also interact with Peyote plants, which allowed for temporary control of animals, resulting in some humorous gameplay moments. A special golden Peyote even enabled players to embody Bigfoot in the next-gen version!

At the launch of GTA Online, animals were noticeably absent, which left many players feeling that the world lacked immersion. However, given the nature of the game—focused on crime and empire-building—wildlife was not a high priority. If animals had been included, they might have been classified as endangered or even extinct due to the chaotic environment of the game

Animals from Red Dead Redemption

When Red Dead Redemption 2 launched in 2018, it showcased one of the most intricate ecosystems in gaming history. Wildlife is abundant across the five states, each species exhibiting unique behaviors.

In GTA 6, we can expect some animals to return from RDR2. For instance, eagles swoop down to catch fish, snakes, and rabbits, while wolves and grizzlies engage in battles over carcasses. Interactions among animals, including playful behaviors, contribute to the vibrant atmosphere. With over 200 animal species and a thriving aquatic ecosystem, RDR2 created a world that felt alive, where players could hunt for food and craft clothing from pelts.

However, Red Dead Online faced challenges with wildlife in its early years. Following the Moonshine update in December 2019, many animals vanished, making it difficult for players to hunt and gather resources for their traders. Crows became the most common sight, and spotting a buck was a rare occurrence.

Although the issue was addressed with the Naturalist Update in 2020, the game continued to experience struggles with wildlife presence. Despite the vast and detailed world of Red Dead Online, maintaining a balanced animal population has proven to be a recurring challenge.

Initially, GTA Online’s servers weren’t designed to support animals, and they remained a low priority. The only wildlife present were cockroaches, mission-specific monkeys, and the occasional Peyote plants, which were introduced as part of the Diamond Casino and Resort update.

Eventually, with the expanded and enhanced editions for PS5 and Xbox Series, animals were integrated into GTA Online in the December 2023 update.
